August 20: I finally printed out the image I posted yesterday--and made a variation on it which I also printed out. The two and a third image that they are based on will be the three quotients of my triptych, "Mathemaku for Tom Phillips." The one I posted yesterday is for the third in the set. Here are reproductions of them. They're not terribly good since I had to convert them to jpg and reduce their size to fit them in here where there is a 5 megabyte limit on graphics:

Nothing much going on in the sequence. Each in turn will be multiplied by the dictionary definition of "mathematics" to yield a product nearly equal, respectively, to "departure" "journey" and "arrival."
The text of the third, by the way, is from Keats's "On First Looking Into Chapman's Homer." It's part of "Then felt I like some watcher of the skies/ When a new planet swims into his ken."
