Daily Notes on Poetry & Related Matters

April 3: Another neology day here, an exciting one, for I'm retiring "illumagery," which no one ever used but me. It's my word for "visual art." Its replacement is "depictry." dee PIHK tree. The art practiced by a "depictran"--who makes "depictras" (as a playwright makes dramas). "Depictral" is the group adjective. I am not enchanted with the sound of these new words but their meaning ought to be clear.

So a fused combination of text and graphics but no significant semantic content is no longer a "textual illumage" in my aesthetics, but a "textual depictra." It remains a "visual poem" in the aesthetics of nullinguists LIKE GEOF HUTH!!! Or would if they had aesthetics. I ALONE IN THE ENGLISH-SPEAKING WORLD HAVE AN AESTHETICS.

I finished the mathemaku I've been working on, by the way. My last improvement consisted of a simple crop. Amazing what that can sometimes do. But I still don't think my poem top-notch. Fortunately, I thought of a new on as the day ended, and improved on it while in bed. Erato is going to be in it, I think. I don't like how direct it will be, but one of the terms is in code, and I write "sun" as "soon," though no one will know it. . . . My big creative accomplishment is making my subdividend product interrelate with the page-filling background of the poem, a trick I think is new with me. Hope it comes off. I plan to spend tomorrow on it. Too tired today--was out of the house with friends from seven until noon. I should be able to start it today, though.
