Daily Notes on Poetry & Related Matters

April 18: Strange. Yesterday, I played with the piece I posted at my blog then, gradually turning it into a pure illumage--i.e., removing all words and signs of words. The steps are here:

I think I like the second to last version best (from the top), but I'm not sure. It's become important because, a few hours after I finished my stint at Paint Shop, thinking I'd become verbally defunct, I thought of words to go with one of the illumages. "Pebble," which I mentioned in my previous entry, was one. It'd be my dividend, the illumage the product under it, representing what a pebble really is--for the right poet, for--it was obvious--William Blake. So, the new poem will be called "Mathemaku for William Blake." I have a quotient for it, but no divisor yet, nor remainder. I won't be able to display the finished piece (and I'm sure there'll be one) because I want to submit it to Geof for possible publication in Poetry. Surely, I can quote what I have at this point as a quotient, though: "unlessoned, lane-loving eyesight."
