Daily Notes on Poetry & Related Matters

June 6: The following poem I stole from the Cricket Online Review via the entry Geof Huth made on June 4 to his blog, dbqp: visualizing poetics:

It's by David Harrison Horton--from a series of such poems by him. Geof more than satisfactorily discusses it a some of Horton's other pieces, but I grabbed it not only to fill another entry, but because I noted a few details I thought interesting that Geof didn't mention. The chief one is the infraverbal split of "your eye" into "yo/ureye." Ur-eye, or myth-sensitive primary viewing instrument, if you will. There's a bit of a pun with "awry," too. The split, along with the break up of "crackle" into "crack" and "le," also allows the line above "ureye" to say "ieyo," the short l looking like a small i--or allude to what makes spoken launguage most possible: vowels. A big "Crack" to start things is a nice touch, as well.

I seem to be doing better, by the way: I actually got much of a column for Small Press Review done yesterday. Now if I can only finish it today!
