Visual Poetry in the Avant Writing Collection has just been published. It's a catalogue of the visual poetry that's been gathered by John M. Bennett for The Ohio State University Libraries' Avant Writing Collection, which has all kinds of other avant stuff. John has edited it and provided an introduction for it--as have Marvin Sackner and I. It's in full color. Paper-bound but pretty danged deluxe. 10" by 7.5" glossy pages, for instance--142 of them. A highlight for me was seeing so many specimens of the work of K.S. Ernst, Scott Helmes, John himself, Jim Leftwich and Thomas L. Taylor all in one place. These are all Americans, but there is a fair amount of international work here, too. Exclusions and inclusions, by the way, are due in large part simply to who has gotten around to contributing work to the collection, who hasn't. Anyway, it's a terrific collection.
