Daily Notes on Poetry & Related Matters

December 31:

                    six commas of where
                    later, Poem builded how;
                    road-end buttercups.

                    Poem ellipses
                    over fields of Koppany;
                    Butterflies?  Not yet.

                    The laughter commaed,
                    its loose rhyme with Poem's grape
                    cringed to spotlessness.

                    Poem bunched and slabbed,
                    haikued intense with without.
                    Briefly: distant rain.

Maybe I should point out for those not following my haiku adventure that the four things above are stand-alone "haiku." The second from the top is some kind of joke, I suspect. The others may be comic but are serious attempts to slant a bit of text into some kind of spangle.

An Announcement: Visio-Textual Selectricity, the anthology of favorites of their own work chosen by 21 visio-textual artists, is now finished.

My major error regarding it was not announcing from the outset that it would not be snazzy, that it would just be something more or less thrown-together. So it turned out. I consider the reproduction of works for the most part more than acceptable although I know that those fussy about such things will not agree. A few pieces came out barely acceptable. For some reason, my little printer couldn't handle them. My packaging is eighties stapled-down-the-side Runaway Spoon Press packaging. Not quite as good, actually, because I didn't bother with covers, as such. Comically, it also cost the most of any hand-published Runaway Spoon Title. (A few out-of-house glossy full-sized books cost a little more.) My choice of paper was lousy--some kind of presentation stuff that was thick but very expensive. And I misjudged how much I'd need, and the extra stock I got, which was labelled exactly the same, wasn't. All I can say is that I hope no one will be too upset with me.

Oh, I'll be charging $50 per copy for it. $40 to a contributor, each of whom will get two free copies in the mail eventually. I'll only have ten copies for sale--if that (since I'm not yet sure exactly how many copies I managed to produce). E.mail me at bobgrumman@nut-n-but.net if you want a copy.

One thing I'm very satisfied with, by the way, is what people sent me: the works are terrific, and varied. Some great comments about them accompanied them, too. I'm not a True Sophistiket: I love viewing art, but I also love finding out about artists. One oddity: the widespreadness of blue in the pieces. Dunno why.

One final note: there's a chance I may have superior packaging of the anthology done at Lulu. Right now I can't afford it, and haven't time to mess with it, but maybe later. So let me know of any typos or anything else fixable.
