Daily Notes on Poetry & Related Matters

May 6: Today just a link to another article on creativity and madness. These articles always annoy me, because--quite frankly--I know ten times as much about their subject as their authors or the people they quote. For instance, I know that Nature makes mistakes. In other words, natural selection is not perfect. So genes producing maladaptive people are inevitable. This does not wholly explain psychosis and homosexuality and other maladaptive or seemingly maladaptive innate behaviors, but must be taken into consideration in any intelligent discussion of natural selection. Related to this is the possibility that natural selection has led to our having a genetic mechanism that experiments with out genes. Its aim is intentional errors. The virtue: that some of these errors will lead to an improved species. I am certain that such a mechanism exists although none of the science technicians have found and labeled it.

More on this subject when I'm in the mood to write about it.
