Daily Notes on Poetry & Related Matters

June 18: I had a brief but reasonably pleasant conversation with Daniel F. Bradley at Spidertangle about the textscape Geof had in Poetry. Daniel gave it an A, I a C or C+. He had some interesting things to say about it--for instance, about the way its e creeps up to its g, or something like that. Whatever he said, it made me think I may have underestimated Geof's piece, though I can't see myself ever giving it an A.

I came to a few conclusions. One is that a textscape like Geof's should do more than pose (Daniel's convinced me it may well do that). Another is that there is no vital difference between creating a textscape and creating a flower arrangement. I'm speaking of pure textscapes--designs that use nothing but typography. Metaphorical content seems to be what I most require in the best art. Or something else that puts one in Manywhere-at-Once.
